MARICOPA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGES DISTRICT
Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) needs a board member who has board, community, college and education experience. Maricopa Community College District is made up of 10 individual accredited colleges and two skill centers. It has a budget of more than 1.4 billion dollars. It is important to have board members who are knowledgeable, experienced, hardworking and without a political agenda.
The MCCCD has a five member board, elected by the same districts as the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. It is a non-paid, non- partisan, six year commitment. The community college is very important to our community.
- MCCCD serves about 250,000 students annually and is one of the largest providers of higher education in the United States and the World.
- MCCCD provides cost-effective education university-transfer courses:
36% of the total ASU undergraduate population had transferred with 12 or more credits from MCCCD.
- Besides university-transfer courses, the Maricopa Community Colleges offer courses and programs that support our local economy in:
Workforce Development and Training
Small Business Development
Personal Growth and Development.
- MCCCD is the largest provider of health care workers and job training in Arizona
- MCCCD is a major employer in the Phoenix Metropolitan area with about 4,500 employees.
- MCCCD offers about 1,000 occupational programs (degrees and certificates), 37 academic associate degrees, and has more than 10,000 courses available for offering.
- MCCCD has some of the most qualified teaching faculty in the United States, which gives the Maricopa Community Colleges one of the best reputations in Higher Education.
It is important to maintain the community base education on which the Maricopa County Community College District was built. Unlike Pima Community Colleges, where there is one accredited college with several sites around Pima County, Maricopa Community Colleges are individually accredited so each community can have a say in what is offered at their college. Business, community and staff need to work together to determine what is needed from their community college. I am committed to maintaining community and staff input into the decision making process.
There have been problems with disputed expenditures in travel and others areas. I will be aggressive in doing the board fiduciary responsibility in budget review, primarily in the area of travel and credit card expenditures. I will work to keep administration costs down and keep tuition affordable. I have 15 years of experience in budget audits and program management. I have 8 years of school board experience and I have worked 12 years in a school district.
I am running for the Community College Board Because:
The Community College needs a qualified and experienced board to address the serious financial problems. It needs someone who supports education and who will look for new ways to solve problems.
- I believe the board needs someone who is Fiscally Conservative and will be active in expenditure and budget monitoring
- I am dedicated to defending your public trust
- I am committed to making sure your tax dollars are used to support teaching and learning
- I am determined to support excellence in education
- I have a long history of community service and board experience
- I have attended the Maricopa Community Colleges to learn computer skills and to take substance abuse classes for my license requirements. I have knowledge of the Arizona universities by getting an undergrad degree from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree from Arizona State University.
Your Community Colleges matter--for you, your children and our Maricopa County community! Because of my education experience, my board and community experience and dedication to teaching and learning I have been endorsed by the Maricopa Colleges Faculty PAC.
